700 police deployed for Congress convention, from sniffer dogs to drones

The 15th General Convention of the Nepali Congress begins today, Sunday, at the Khulamanch, Kathmandu. The convention venue has been decorated, and delegates continue to arrive. Supporters of declared candidates, along with delegates, are already asking for votes.

The inauguration session is scheduled for 2 pm. Heads of other political parties and representatives from various countries are arriving at the Khulamanch for the opening.

A large number of police have been deployed to secure the convention. According to SSP Dilip Ghimire of the District Police Range, Kathmandu, 700 police personnel have been mobilised to provide security.

Both plainclothes and uniformed police are on duty. Ghimire said surveillance is also being carried out by drone. Trained police dogs have also been deployed, and sniffer dog checks are underway.

A command post has been set up under the command of the Metropolitan Police for security. Police said they are also managing traffic in coordination with the Traffic Police.

The organisers have said they will hold the convention peacefully and without extravagance.
