Onlinekhabar has opened nominations for its annual ‘50 Influential Women 2027’ list, which will be published on March 8 to mark International Women’s Day.
The initiative recognises women making meaningful contributions across fields including politics, society, culture, sports, science and knowledge.
“Every year on March 8, Onlinekhabar prepares a list of 50 influential women to ensure that the meaningful presence of women in Nepali politics, society, culture, sports, science and other fields is recognised on a public platform,” the nomination announcement said.
Onlinekhabar launched the initiative in 2080 BS to identify and honour enterprising, courageous and inspiring Nepali women.
“We have been recognising and honouring 50 of Nepal’s most inspiring and influential women on International Women’s Day. They are women who have made a significant impact in their respective fields and brought about change,” said Basanta Basnet, editor-in-chief of Onlinekhabar.
“We want to present not only women’s rights but also their strength and capabilities with pride before society. This is not just a women’s issue; it is a responsibility we all share,” he said.
Basnet added that the initiative was also a celebration of women’s struggles, empowerment, dedication and talent.
The nomination call invites people to recommend women who have achieved new milestones in their fields, challenged established norms, led change despite difficult circumstances or made a meaningful impact on society.
Onlinekhabar has previously published the list on the occasion of International Women’s Day in 2024, 2025 and 2026.
Basnet said an initial list would be prepared based on public nominations, information gathered by the newsroom and inputs from various stakeholders and sources.
The preliminary list will then be submitted to a selection committee, which will review and recommend candidates for the final list of 50 influential women. The final list will be published on March 8.
Nominations will remain open until the evening of December 6.
