KMC starts drive to rid city of unmanaged cables

Kathmandu, May 6

Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has started management of cables strung on electric poles, as part of its drive to clean the town.

Unmanaged wires dangling from the poles in Tripureshwor, Kamaladi and Kamal Pokhari have been trimmed, KMC’s Environment Management Department Chief, Rabinman Shrestha said. KMC collected 15 truckloads of unmanaged wires and cables, and has kept them at Teku.

City authorities started the campaign as the unmanaged wires affected the aesthetic beauty of Kathmandu and posed risk of fire.

KMC has also taken action against internet service providers Subisu and World Link for setting up wire networks haphazardly.  They were penalised Rs 20,000 each for unmanaged wire networks.
