Kathmandu, April 28
Teachers continued their protest in Kathmandu today, demanding the implementation of the School Education Act. Demonstrations have been ongoing since April 2 along the streets of New Baneshwor and Babarmahal.
During yesterday’s protest, a brief clash occurred between teachers and police. However, today’s demonstration has remained peaceful so far, with teachers carrying placards, chanting slogans, and showcasing cultural performances.
Although the government has made several attempts to initiate dialogue with the teachers, negotiations have repeatedly failed.
Meanwhile, lawmakers in today’s parliamentary session urged the government to take the teachers’ demands seriously. Opposition parties have also registered a proposal of public importance in parliament regarding the issue.
