261 families in Krishnanagar receive land ownership certificates

Kapilvastu, November 6

A total of 261 families in Krishnanagar Municipality of Kapilvastu have received land ownership certificates (lalpurja) for their village block land after a prolonged wait.

The certificates were distributed to landowners from Wards 1, 7 and 9 at a programme jointly organised by Krishnanagar Municipality and the Survey Office in Taulihawa. According to the municipality, 73 families from Ward 1, 49 from Ward 7 and 139 from Ward 9 received the certificates.

The residents, who had been using the land for years but lacked legal documents proving ownership, expressed happiness at finally receiving the certificates.

Eighty-year-old Madhura Kurmini said she was happy to receive legal proof of ownership even in the later years of her life. “We have been living on and using this land for years, but it was not registered in our name. I am very happy to receive the ownership certificate now. I finally have legal proof that the land belongs to me,” she said.

Similarly, Chhedi Ahir of Ward 9 said his family had waited five generations to receive ownership documents for land used by their ancestors.

Krishnanagar Mayor Rajat Pratap Shah said the municipality had prioritised distributing ownership certificates to village block landowners. He said the certificates would secure residents’ legal ownership and facilitate their economic and social activities.

“The process of distributing ownership certificates to all village block landowners within the municipality will continue,” Shah said, adding that efforts would be made to complete the registration of the remaining land in coordination with the concerned authorities.

He also said the municipality would initiate the process of distributing ownership certificates for bahal bitauri land in Krishnanagar Bazar, Bahadurganj Bazar and Sirshihawa after the formation of a commission.

Survey Office Taulihawa Chief Janak Bhandari said the certificates were distributed after completing the measurement and registration of the village block land. He said the land had been surveyed in 2013 and urged recipients to carefully verify details, including the landowner’s name, plot number and area. Errors, if any, can be corrected by contacting the concerned office.

The programme was attended by Deputy Mayor Aarti Chaudhary, Chief Administrative Officer Prem Prasad Devkota, Ward 9 Chairperson Shatis Harijan, survey team officials, local representatives and landowners.
