2 rhinos found dead in Chitwan

Nawalpur, November 5

Two rhinoceros, one adult and one calf, were found dead in the western part of Chitwan National Park.

CNP Information Officer and Assistant Conservation Officer Ashok Ram informs the adult and calf rhinos were found dead at Laukhani of the park.

A patrol squad of Nepal Army which was entrusted with the responsibility of park security found the dead rhinos on Wednesday afternoon, Ram says. Of them, the adult female rhino was found without its horn so poaching was suspected behind the incident.

According to him, the nature of the deaths this time looks similar to that of a rhino death three months ago.

At least 11 rhinos have so far died in Chitwan in the current fiscal year. Nine of them died naturally, the CNP sources said.

According to the 2015 census, there are 645 rhinos in Nepal including 605 in the CNP.
