Police in Siraha have recovered 105 kg of marijuana from an ambulance.
Police said the drugs were recovered from ambulance no. Ja 1 Cha 1213, which was travelling from Choharwa toward Jayanagar at around 8 pm on Tuesday.
After receiving a tip-off that marijuana had been loaded into the ambulance and was being brought toward Siraha, a police team was mobilised under the command of Police Inspector Sunil Chaurasiya.
According to police, the driver realised the ambulance was under surveillance and broke through police barricades set up at three locations between Choharwa and Siraha before fleeing with the vehicle.
As additional police pursued the vehicle, the driver abandoned the ambulance along the Hulaki Road section in Siraha Municipality-1 and fled on foot, Siraha Police said.
While inspecting the ambulance, police found 105 kg of marijuana packed in five sacks, SP Basudev Pathak said.
According to SP Pathak, the ambulance and the recovered marijuana have been brought to the District Police Office, Siraha, where further investigation is underway. He said efforts to identify and trace the fleeing driver are continuing.
