A 34-year-old Nepali from Bhadrutar-3, Nuwakot, went missing in Dubai while returning to Nepal from the United States.
The person with surname Poudel had left the Boston airport for Nepal on January 22. In Dubai, he went out of contact, causing distress among family and friends, who had gathered at the Tribhuvan International Airport as he was supposed to land at 10.30 pm.
Days and months passed by without any news of the youth, who had left for the US about 10 months ago, leaving the Poudel household in distress.
Realising that doing nothing was not the solution, the youth’s cousin Prakash moved the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, asking for help to locate his missing uncle. The ministry wrote to competent authorities in Abu Dhabi, setting in motion a search for the youth with the initiative of the Nepali Embassy in the UAE.
Ambassador Dhananjaya Jha and labour attache Hira Yadav took special interest in this case. In course of investigation, it emerged that the youth had 500 dirham due at the Dubai airport’s immigration department.

It meant that the youth was in the UAE. The embassy asked the Non-Resident Nepalis’ Association in the Gulf country for help in finding the missing man. An NRNA team under vice-president Ramesh Shrestha intensified the search for the missing man.
Kalpana Rai, NRNA woman coordinator and a staffer at the Dubai airport, also contributed to this search. After 10 days of efforts, it came to light that the person in question is under treatment at Rashid hospital.
When the NRNA team visited the hospital, Poudel was semi-conscious state at the hospital. It has come to light that Poudel, who has depression, passed out due to medical overdose. Shrestha, quoting an attendant physician, said Poudel is recovering. However, the patient will have to stay in the hospital as the UAE health policy does not allow discharge of patients without the latter’s full recovery.
Shrestha, quoting the physician, requested family members and other relatives to contact the hospital for the patient’s care.
