Kathmandu, May 14
Mountaineer and adventurer Steve Plain has summited the highest peak of the world, Mount Everest, on Monday morning. With this, he has climbed the Seven Summits, the highest mountains in each of the seven continents, in 117 days 6 hours and 50 minutes, the shortest time ever for the task.
He has broken the previous record of 126 days held by Colin O’Brady as the climber to reach tops of Seven Summits in the shortest duration.
He summited Everest this morning with Jon Gupta and Pemba Sherpa. Steve and Jon are the first foreigners to the top of the world this season, according to his website project7in4.com.
He was one of the first to summit Everest after the rope fixers had fixed the ropes yesterday afternoon.
“We are now resting at Camp 4 for a few hours and our plan is to set off this evening aiming to reach the top early tomorrow morning,” he had said in his daily updates on Sunday.
Three years ago, Plain had broken his neck while body surfing in Western Australia. But now, he has defied all odds to become the record holder.
