Storm halts 70 MW power transmission from India to Nepal

Kathmandu, April 2

The disastrous storm in Bara and Parsa districts of southern Nepal on Sunday night has blocked the transmission of 70 megawatt power from India to Nepal.

Nepal Electricity Authority’s spokesperson Prabal Adhikari says the transmission was halted as the storm damaged 33 KV Birgunj-Raxaul transmission line and 132 KV Raxaul-Parwanipur transmission line.

Despite the obstruction, the Authority has increased the volume of electricity transmitted from Kulekhani and other projects of Nepal. Likewise, transmission lines in and around Birgunj, Kalaiya and Simara have been fixed so as to ensure uninterrupted power supply.

The Authority says fixing damaged lines in nearby rural places is underway, adding it is committed to resuming the power supply at the earliest.
