Six houses buried in Darchula landslides

A landslide-affected region in Darchula, in July 2018.

Darchula, July 11

At least six houses located in different places of Darchula district have been buried in landslides on Wednesday.

An incessant rainfall since Tuesday night caused landslides.

Naugad Rural Municipality has been worst hit by the disaster. Local activist Aansingh Badal says some cattle, crops and other property have been buried by landslides. No human casualties have been reported so far.

Floods in this area has swept away makeshift wooden bridges over the streams, barring locals from movement. The power station of Godhani Khola Micro Hydropower Project in Naugad-1 has also been destroyed due to the flood.

Officials say collecting details of the loss in the areas has been difficult as telephone connection has gone kaput.

Meanwhile, the water level in various rivers including Mahakali and Chameliya has increased following the rainfall.
