Paudel, Sitaula lose to UML, RPP

L-R: Ram Chandra Paudel and Krishna Prasad Sitaula

Kathmandu, December 8

Two senior leaders of Nepali Congress, Ram Chandra Paudel and Krishna Prasad Sitaula, lost House of Representatives elections in their respective constituencies.

Paudel lost to CPN-UML’s Kisan Shrestha in Tanahun-1 by 6,414 votes. Shrestha was the joint candidate of UML and CPN-Maoist Centre.

Likewise, in Jhapa-3, Sitaula lost to Rastriya Prajatantra Party’s General Secretary Rajendra Lingden by a difference of around 13,000 votes. Lingden was supported by the leftist alliance including UML and Maoist Centre.

With Lingden’s victory, the Kamal Thapa-led party still holds the possibility of becoming a national party as it may cross three per cent threshold in proportional representation polls.

Thapa, however, has already lost the polls in Makawanpur-1.
