Pant murder probe: Team of women police deployed to Kanchanpur

File: SP Durga Singh

Kathmandu, September 18

The Nepal Police Headquarters on Tuesday decided to send an additional team, consisting of women officials only, to Bhimdutta Nagar of Kanchanpur district to investigate into the rape and murder of 13-year-old Nirmala Pant around two months ago.

An official of the Headquarters informs that SP Durga Singh leads the team. The team has been assigned to establish coordination with the victim’s family and neighbours as well as local rights activities to assist the investigation process.

“Because this case is related to a girl child, we thought a team consisting of women officials only could make the investigation more effective,” the source informs, “We have left no stone unturned to conclude the probe at the earliest.”

Two days ago, the Headquarters had formed a ‘powerful’ team to investigate if police officials were also involved in the crime.

He also assured that findings of the investigation would be revealed soon.
