Nepal PM Oli leaves for six-day official China visit

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli leaves for China, in Kathmandu, on Tuesday, June 19, 2018.

Kathmandu, June 19

Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Tuesday morning left for a six-day official visit to China. Nepal has expected that this visit would help it get a generous support from the northern neighbour in its infrastructure development.

His Cabinet colleagues, leaders of Parliament, party leaders and top government officials saw the Prime Minister off at the country’s single international airport, Tribhuvan International Airport, in Kathmandu at 9 am today.

During the visit, the Prime Minister will hold political meetings with Chinese leaders including President Xi Jinping and counterpart Li Keqiang.

It is expected that the governments in Kathmandu and Beijing will sign a number of agreements for partnership in Nepal’s hydropower development, post-earthquake reconstruction and energy cooperation.

Oli has been saying that he will make sure  out of this visit that past agreements signed with the neighbour will be implemented.

Earlier, briefing Parliament about agendas of the visit yesterday, the Prime Minister told lawmakers that he would directly talk with  Xi and ask he could support Nepal’s development agendas. He was hopeful that China would be kind enough to support Nepal, keeping its national interests at centre, as it has always respected the country’s sovereignty.
