Deuba extends NSU term, a section protests

Leaders and cadres of Nepal Students Union stage a sit-in at the resident of Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, on Thursday, January 17, 2019.

Kathmandu, January 17

The main opposition Nepali Congress has decided to extend the term of executive committee of its student wing, Nepal Students Union.

Party spokesperson Bishwa Prakash Sharma says the party has decided to give continuity to the current committee though its term expired on Wednesday.

A Central Working Committee meeting of the party to be held next week will decide the period of extension, according to Sharma.

Meanwhile, a section of the NSU leaders and cadres expressed dissatisfaction with the decision. They went to party President Sher Bahadur Deuba’s residence in Budhanilakantha of Kathmandu this morning and staged a sit-in.

The demonstrators had took out a motorbike rally to the residence.

They have argued that the current committee’s term should not be extended as it has repeatedly failed to hold the general convention.
