33.5 kg gold smuggling: Morang court begins recording Gore’s statement

Chudamani Upreti alias Gore

Kathmandu, May 23

The Morang District Court has begun recording statements from Chudamani Upreti alias Gore, an alleged gold smuggling racketeer, in connection with smuggling and subsequent disappearance of 33.5 kg gold, and a murder that followed.

Gore was arrested from Gaurighat of Kathmandu yesterday and police had taken him to Biratnagar yesterday itself. He has already confessed to the crime, but said he worked in the racket just as an agent. He had also revealed several other names who he claimed were parts of the criminal gang.

Currently, Gore is recording his statements at the bench of judge Narayan Sharma. After the completion of recording, a hearing will be conducted to decide whether he be freed or kept in judicial custody while the legal proceedings will move ahead.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Court had sent 28 persons arrested in connection with the case to judicial custody. Two others were freed.
