15 days of government holiday in 2076 (2019/20)

Nepal will have 15 days of public holiday in the upcoming calendar year 2076 BS (2019/2020), the government has decided.

A notice to this effect was published on the government’s Gazette on Friday. The holidays are: Nepali New year, May Day, Buddha Jayanti, Constitution Day, Dashain (five days), Tihar (three days), Shiva Ratri, International Women’s Day, and Holi.

However, the government has also decided to grant holidays to specific groups of people during festivals unique to their cultures. Women get a holiday on Teej, people with disability get a holiday on International Disability Day and schools and colleges get the day off on Sri Panchami. Similarly, communities celebrating Jitiya, Gai Jatra, Indra Jatra, Ghode Jatra, Matsendranath Jatra, Falgunanda Day,  Guru Nanak Day, Chandi Purnima, Udhauli, Yomari Punhi, Gaura, Chatth, Eid, Christmas, Lhosar, Maghe Sakranti, Siruwa Pawani and Dhabthamby festival will also receive will get holidays to observe the festivals.
