‘Wanted a baby so bad, I stole it’

Parsa, February 5

It has come to light that Lalsa Devi (22), daughter of Bindeshwar Kanu of Belba VDC-9, Parsa district, had stolen the newborn son of Asha Devi and Mukesh Paswan of Chhapkaiya, Birgunj municipality-1, Parsa. Police have taken her under control and handed over the baby to its family.

In course of investigation, police found that the 22-year-old, married five years ago to a man in Bhiswa of the district,  chose to steal the baby from the Narayani sub-regional hospital in Birgunj because she wanted a baby so badly.

In course of police interrogation, Lalsa Devi said: I wanted a baby so much that I stole it. ‘Was trying to steal a baby for a month and met with success on Friday.

Lalsa Devi did not take the baby to Bhiswa because she was sure her husband’s family would find out that the baby was not hers.

The newborn is now at the hospital’s intensive care unit. Police described the condition of the baby as normal.

Police said they are trying to ascertain whether other people, too, are involved in this case.
