Uruguay defeats Brazil in penalty shootout to Reach Copa America 2024 Semifinals

In a thrilling quarterfinal clash held in Las Vegas, Uruguay emerged victorious against Brazil, securing their spot in the semifinals of the 2024 Copa America with a 4-2 win in a penalty shootout.

The match, which took place on Sunday morning, saw both teams fail to score during regular time, leading to the decisive penalty shootout. Uruguay’s Federico Valverde, Rodrigo Bentancur, Giorgian De Arrascaeta, and Manuel Ugarte all successfully converted their penalties. Brazil’s goalkeeper Alisson managed to save a shot from Jose Maria Gimenez.

On the Brazilian side, only Andreas Pereira and Gabriel Martinelli found the back of the net during the shootout. Uruguay’s goalkeeper Sergio Rochet made a crucial save against Eder Militao’s attempt, and Douglas Luiz’s shot struck the post.

With this victory, Uruguay advances to the semifinals, where they will face Colombia. Colombia earned their semifinal berth by convincingly defeating Panama 5-0.

Uruguay now aims to continue their strong performance and secure a place in the final of Copa America 2024.
