Upadhyay unacceptable as Nepal’s envoy to India: UML

Deep-kumar-upadhyaya

Kathmandu, October 2

Nepal’s principal opposition party UML has objected to the nomination of Congress leader Dip Kumar Upadhyay as the country’s ambassador to New Delhi.

Upadhyay, who was appointed to the position in April 2015, was recalled by the KP Oli government alleging that he was involved in a plot to topple the government in Kathmandu.

At at meeting of the Parliamentary Hearing Committee on Sunday, UML MPs alleged that Upadhyay was someone who acted in the interest of another country. However, despite the objection, Upadhayay’s nomination sailed through the House by majority.

Meanwhile, the committee has unanimously approved the nomination of former top diplomat Leelamani Paudyal as Nepal’s ambassador to China.
