UML’s GC poised to become Pokhara’s Mayor

Pokhara, May 25

The CPN-UML’s candidate is poised to win the race to become the Mayor of Nepal’s largest Metropolis.

The UML’s Man Bahadur GC maintains a lead of 11,900 votes with just 17,000 of the 125,700 votes left to be counted. GC’s closest contender Ramji Kunwar of the Nepali Congress has already accepted defeat

While GC garnered 51,217 votes, Kunwar received 39,315 votes. Official results of the count will be made public after results from wards 30-33 are collated. If Kunwar is to win, he will have to receive more than 82 per cent of votes cast in those wards–which is next to impossible.

Kunwar as congratulated GC on his success. “I don’t see any chance of a victory now. I have congratulated GC,” Kunwar told Onlinekhabar. He said the Nepali Congress could not get an expected number of votes in wards 1-15, and that was the reason he lost the race.

Kunwar said he will continue to work for the development of Pokhara and support the new mayor.
