UAE wants to invest in Nepal’s hydel, tourism, agriculture sectors

Abu Dhabi, January 16

Minister for Energy Janardan Sharma ‘Prabhakar’ held talks with Suhail Mohammed Al Mazrouei, UAE’s Minister for Energy, at the Ministry of Energy in Abu Dhabi, on Monday.

The talks focused on the possibility of Nepal-UAE cooperation in the field of hydropower generation, Keshav Raj Pokharel, attache at the Embassy of Nepal in the UAE, informed.

Energy Minister Sharma, who is in the Gulf state to participate in the World Future Energy Summit 2017, pointed that there’s a good possibility of development of hydropower in Nepal for the next 100 years at least. He asked the UAE government to invst in Nepal’s hydropower sector.

On his part, Minister Mazrouei said his government is willing to invest in Nepal’s hydropower sector. He pledged to initiate a formal bilateral process for the same. Mazrouei said that apart from hydropower, the UAE wants to invest in Nepal’s agriculture and tourism sectors too.
