Transport office opens in Chabahil, to renew driving licences in the beginning

Kathmandu, January 20

The Department of Transport Management opened a new transport management office in Chabahil, Kathmandu, on Friday.

From Sunday, this office will start renewing driving licences.

A few days ago, it had established transport management offices in Thulo Bharyang of Swayambhu in Kathmandu and Jagati of Bhaktapur.

The establishment of transport management offices in three more places means people will no longer have to visit the Ekantakuna (Lalitpur)-based office to acquire licences in the lung run.

The new offices, though, are yet to provide full range of services to service-seekers. In the beginning, the Chabahil office, like other new transport offices, will renew driving licences only, as it does not have a trial centre for driving licence tests. It will also accept applications for licences.

Department officials point that the new offices without trial centres will not be able to serve people efficiently.

None of the three offices have trial centres required for issuance of driving licences. Each of these offices can accept 500 applications seeking driving licences.

The department says construction of trial centres for these offices will not be immediately possible. So, it is trying to take driving centres on lease for conducting trials.
