Transport management department starts action against vehicles flouting highway rules

The Department of Transport Management has intensified action against vehicle drivers flouting traffic rules on highways. On Tuesday, the department initiated action against those flouting the rules along the BP Highway.

Tok Raj Pandey, the department’s spokesperson, said a team from the department took action against 25 vehicles plying the highway on Tuesday for violating traffic rules.

In course of monitoring, we found many vehicles (vehicle drivers) flouting traffic rules, he said.

The department took action against those vehicles without number plates, vehicles carrying passengers beyond capacity, vehicles that were not issuing tickets to passengers and vehicles charging more than the normal fares. The team also found vehicles operating along the highway without taking route permit. On Tuesday, it took action against five such vehicles.

The department has collected from each errant vehicle Rs 5,000 as fine. In course of monitoring, we found many vehicles charging more than the normal fares, Pandey said, adding that they will start monitoring other highways as well.
