Khotang, May 15

The Maiyung Tyamke Salpa Silichung Tourism Promotion Centre has developed the ‘Greater Mundum Trail’.

The Centre has developed the Greater Mundum Trail with the aim of creating a short trekking route that can easily connect Khuwalung in the Eastern Tarai to the base camp of the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest (Chomolungma), through the mountains.

Centre Chairman Ramesh Kumar Rai said that the Greater Mundum Trail has been developed with the aim of constructing the Lower Mundum Trail from Khuwalung situated at Chataradhama to Tawa Bhanjyang in Khotang, the Mundum Trail from Tawa Bhanjyang to Salpa Silichung in Bhojpur, and the Upper Mundum Trail from Chheskam in Solukhumbu to the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest.

“The Greater Mundum Trail has been divided into three sections. This trail encompasses the Tarai, hills, and mountains. The goal of the Greater Mundum Trail is to create Nepal’s first tourist trail that focuses on attracting international tourists,” he said.

The trail has been delineated, and accommodations suitable for visiting tourists and the features of the Greater Mundum Trail have been identified based on an exploration conducted by the Maiyung Tyamke Salpa Silichung Tourism Promotion Centre, in coordination with the Mahakulung Rural Municipality of Solukhumbu.

A travel along the Greater Mundum Trail, one can experience the natural and geographical diversity from the hot winds of the flat plains of the Tarai to the cold snow of the mountain peaks. One can observe the wild buffalo of the Koshi Tappu as well as the wildlife in the grassy plains of the hills and the Himalayan region along this trail.
