Kathmandu, July 27

The government on Thursday formed a three-member team to hold talks with Dr Govinda KC, who has been staging a fast-unto-death at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital demanding reforms in Nepal’s medical education sector.

Secretary of Ministry of Education, Shanta Bahadur Shrestha, heads the team comprising secretaries of Ministry of Health and Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers.

The Cabinet meeting held today made the decision.

After the meeting, Minister for Finance Gyanendra Bahadur Shrestha said the government would fully address Dr KC’s concerns so as not to let him stage another round of hunger strike.

Putting forth seven demands, Dr KC had began his strike on Monday. It is his 11th hunger strike in past few years.
