Thamel warehouse catches fire, cloth worth Rs 80 lakh destroyed

A godown based in Narsingh Chok, Thamel, caught fire on Sunday morning, causing losses worth around 70-80 lakh, police said.

According to police, short-circuit caused the fire at Durga Lal Shrestha’s cloth godown, destroying almost half of the cloth stored there.

The fire that started at around 9.45 am was put out in about 20 minutes with help from fire engine and Sorhakhutte police, Somendra Singh Rathore, DSP at Sorhakhutte Police Circle, informed. He said police and fire engine managed to avoid further losses by rushing to the site soon after the fire broke out.

Apart from Juddha Fire Brigade and police, locals had also mobilised to extinguish the blaze.
