Teachers’ ‘thrash’ Nawalparasi tenth-grader causing grievous injury, guardians call for legal action against accused

Nawalparasi, June 13

Local people have demanded legal action against two teachers, who allegedly beat up a tenth-grader at Saraswoti Higher Secondary School based in Hasaura, Kawasoti municipality-4 of Nawalparasi district, for failing in her regular tests.

Teachers Surendra Bhurtel and Ananda Adhikari beat up Naina Sara Bayambu Magar (17) of Dhaubadi-7 for failing to clear the tests. According to Bhim Bahadur Bayambu Magar, the student’s father, there are injury marks in her body. She faints every now and then, Bhim Bahadur said, adding that the teachers’ act has left his daughter traumatised.

Bhim Bahadur has moved Nawalpur area police office demanding against the two teachers and treatment for his daughter. The teachers had allegedly thrashed those students, who failed the tests, in the name of teaching them a lesson. Bhim Bahadur said he took his daughter to Bharatpur hospital on Sunday for treatment.

Meanwhile, National Human Rights Commission has expressed concern about the incident. An NHRC team from Butwal visited the place and gathered information about the incident from school teachers, guardians and students.
