Supreme Court orders government not to implement decision to recall ambassadors

Kathmandu, November 2

The Supreme Court has issued an interim order restraining the government from implementing its decision to recall Nepali ambassadors serving in 11 different countries. The bench of Justices Sharanga Subedi and Shrikant Paudel clarified that the recall decision should not be enforced.

The government had announced the recall of these ambassadors two weeks ago.

Last Friday, during a discussion with editors, Prime Minister Sushila Karki stated that some ambassadors had made statements against the government and there were concerns regarding financial discipline in some cases, which prompted the decision to recall them.

A writ petition was filed in the Supreme Court claiming that the government’s decision to recall the ambassadors was not in accordance with the law. Following the preliminary hearing of the case, the Supreme Court issued a short-term interim order preventing the enforcement of the recall decision.
