Supreme Court issues interim order against the land commission dissolution

Kathmandu, August 9

The Supreme Court has issued an interim order telling the government not to implement its decision to dissolve the commission formed to address various land-related problems.

In response to writ petitions filed by the commission’s chairman Devi Gyawali and advocate Prabesh KC among others, a single bench of Justice Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada issued the order on Monday.

A recent cabinet meeting had decided to dissolve the commission that the previous KP Sharma Oli-led government had formed in April 2020 to address concerns of landless squatters among others. The government had dissolved the commission arguing it was made to give jobs to the CPN-UML cadres.

Meanwhile, the court also summoned the petitioners and defendants to attend the next hearing on Tuesday next week (August 17).
