Student unions serve ultimatum to withdraw private school fee hike

Student unions submit a memorandum to Education Minister Dhaniram Poudel, in Kathmandu, on Tuesday, April 18, 2017.

Kathmandu, April 18

Student unions affiliated to major political parties have served a three-day ultimatum to the government to withdraw the fee hike decided by private schools.

The unions met Minister for Education Dhaniram Poudel on Tuesday and warned that they would launch a stern protest if the demand was not heeded within three days.

The unions have mentioned in the memorandum that the Supreme Court had ordered the schools not to decide increment without getting approval from concerned bodies. Likewise, the ordered had barred them from revising the fees in the first three years after the latest revision, they reminded, claiming the schools increasing the fee this academic year breached the order.

The unions to have submitted the memorandum include sister organisations of major parties including Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, CPN-Maoist Centre, Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Narai Madhes Democratic Party and Naya Shakti Party.
