Kathmandu, September 13

The government will provide financial assistance to those displaced by the devastating flood that struck on August 26.

Communications Minister Bikram Timilsina said the Cabinet meeting held last Thursday decided to provide funds to Bhotekoshi flood-affected families for housing rent and other necessary expenses until permanent housing is built.

According to him, families of up to four members will receive Rs 15,000 per month, with an additional Rs 2,000 for each extra member.

He also said that families who do not wish to take this cash assistance will have the option of government-arranged temporary housing until permanent homes are built.

Minister Timilsina said via social media that forms have already been sent to all relevant local levels to collect the necessary details.

He added that the government has completed its preliminary damage and loss assessment from the flood, while a detailed needs assessment process is still ongoing. He said reconstruction and rehabilitation work will move forward swiftly once the required resources are secured based on that assessment.
