Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Gokul Banskota, speaks at a function in Kathmandu, on Tuesday, February 5, 2019.

Kavre, May 5

Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gokul Prasad Baskota says activities of some nongovernment organisations posed a threat to the country’s sovereignty.

Therefore, the government has tightened the scrutiny over them, according to him.

Speaking at a function organised by the Kavre district chapter of NGO Federation Nepal in Dhulikhel on Sunday, Baskota said, “We have to accept foreign aid, but it should not cause any loss to Nepal’s geographical integrity and sovereignty.”

“But, we do not give any blanket judgement. We have to discuss,” he said, “We have expected your suggestions while formulating policies and laws.”

He urged the NGOs to maintain transparency and accountability in their works.

In another context, Baskota said all political parties on the ruling and opposition sides should be united for national development.
