Snowfall shuts down Dolpa airport

Snowfall since Thursday morning has shut down flights at Juphal Airport in Dolpa district of Karnali province after the snow blanketed the runway.

Chief of the Juphal office of Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, Bal Kumar Sharma, says flights scheduled to be landed at the airport from Nepalgunj could not operate due to the snowfall.

Hundreds of passengers have been hit hard due to the obstruction. Likewise, supply of daily essentials has been affected.

The CAAN office says the airport is likely to shut for next three days as the snowfall is likely to continue.

Meanwhile, airports of other districts of the region including those in Humla, Jumla and Mugu districts have also been affected, according to reports.

Officials of local schools have said they have been unable to conduct classes due to the snowfall. It has mostly affected the students preparing for the annual Secondary Education Examination scheduled to be held next month.
