Biratnagar, October 6

Police have arrested two and confiscated 28 human skulls and 10 limbic bones they were carrying at Rani of Biratnagar, on Monday night.

According to police, the two were en route to Kathmandu on a van (Ko 2 Cha 9648) but were stopped by the armed police officers at the Biratnagar Customs Office.

The arrested include the driver of the van Binod Rai of Biratnagar metropolitan city-17 and Yubaraj Karki of Damak municipality-5, who were travelling from Jogbani of India. Police inform they were only henchmen in the transaction being carried.

The confiscated bones were first suspected to be of tortoise, but later, medical experts confirmed them to be of humans.

Morang District Police Office Chief SP Janardan GC says the duo have not answered why the bones were being transported or for what use.

The police suspect they might have robbed the graves of the dead to collect the bones. Further investigation is still underway, say police.
