Kathmandu, February 28

Onlinekhabar, a leading media house in the country, has appointed journalist Shiva Gaunle as its editor-in-chief.

The company also approved the resignation submitted by incumbent editor Arun Baral to be effective from today. Baral led the Onlinekhabar newsroom for eight years.

Gaunle, on the other hand, was working as the editor of the Centre for Investigative Journalism in Nepal since 2015. Prior to that, he was at Himal magazine’s editorial team and has also served as the president of the Federation of Nepali Journalists.

Addressing the Onlinekhabar team after taking over the charge, Gaunle said he would continue balanced and just journalism that the institution had been doing since its establishment.

“Like before, we will be questioning the government and its actions,” said Gaunle. “Issues related to social justice, discrimination, lawlessness and injustice will always be given utmost importance.”

Onlinekhabar Chairperson Dharma Raj Bhusal welcomed Gaunle and bid farewell to Baral during a function organised at the company office this morning.
