Shashanka Koirala says he will consolidate Nepali Congress now

Pokhara, December 31

Nepali Congress General Secretary Shashanka Koirala says he will now focus on consolidating the party organisation, claiming the weak organisation resulted in the historic loss in recent parliamentary elections.

He says he will make the party greater again following footsteps of his father BP Koirala, who founded the Nepali Congress in 1950s. Koirala says he is ready to give up his aspirations of holding leadership positions to strengthen the party.

“I now find that BP’s Congress is far below now. We failed to mobilise our organisations,” he said while addressing a function organised to mark the National Reconciliation Day in Pokhara today, “I do not have any aspiration to become the party chief or the prime minister. My goal is to reorganise the party and make it Number One again.”

Meanwhile, Koirala said his party would effectively play the role of a constructive opposition in Parliament now.
