Kathmandu, October 20
Nepali Congress General Secretary Shashank Koirala has been found distributing ‘Dashain expenses’ to journalists, apparently in his dishonest bid to influence them to write in his favour.
An Onlinekhabar journalist received a call from Koirala’s personal secretary, Bharat Tiwari, on Tuesday morning. He invited the journo to come to a certain place, saying “Dai [Koirala] has sent some goods for you.” Citing the coronavirus infection risk, the journalist called Tiwari to Onlinekhabar’s office instead.
Tiwari came and handed over an envelope to Onlinekhabar’s office assistant, who submitted it to Onlinekhabar News Coordinator Raj Kumar Shrestha. Shrestha was expecting some documents in the envelope, but there were 15 thousand-rupee notes.
Shrestha then called back Tiwari to ask who sent that money for what purpose, Tiwari said, “Koirala… for Dashain.”
Shrestha, surprised, told Tiwari that any journalist at Onlinekhabar could not accept it. Then, he told Shrestha to deposit the money into a Nabil Bank account registered with Krishna Neupane’s name.
