Saturday night flood damages 100-plus houses, shops in Myagdi district headquarters Beni

Myagdi, June 12

Flooding in Myagdi district headquarters Beni caused damage to more than a hundred houses and shops on Saturday night.

The disaster struck when a flooded rivulet gushed into Campus Chok and Mangala Ghat.

In Campus Chok, the flood affected houses in Shikshya Marg, Pipal Chok, Ganesh Tol, Sangam Chok, Hulak Chok and Bank Chok.

In Mangala Ghat, groceries, vegetable shops, cloth shops, jewellery, mobile phone shops, hardware shops and meat shops suffered damage, Govinda Baniya of Campus Chok said. Locals and security personnel mobilised quickly for controlling the flood.

The flood sparked fear among people of Beni Bazaar, forcing them to stay awake all night. Kabiram Sunar, security guard at Machchhapuchhre Bank in Campus Chok, said: Flood struck when Bazaar people were preparing to go to bed, forcing them to stay awake all night.

Mukun Chhantyal, a local, said the flooding occurred as those concerned did not give attention to sewage management while constructing the Beni-Pakhapani road.
