Bajura, September 8
The Sanfe-Martadi road, which had been blocked for three days due to landslides, has now reopened. The road was completely blocked by landslides at various locations in Wards 6, 8 and 9 of Badimalika Municipality following continuous rainfall since Saturday.
According to Chief District Officer Dorendra Niraula, the road has been operational since earlier today. Two JCB excavators from the Department of Roads were deployed from Sunday to clear the landslides, and the road was reopened to traffic today, CDO Niraula said.
According to him, landslides occurred at several locations, including Karagar Mod near the district headquarters, Selagad, Suwakandh, Rapka and Birekhola. Continuous rainfall made it difficult to clear the debris, delaying the reopening of the road.
With the road now operational, long- and short-distance vehicles travelling from the district headquarters, Martadi, have started heading toward their respective destinations.
Power supply to be restored by this evening
Continuous rainfall also triggered landslides that toppled 32 electricity poles. Efforts are underway to restore electricity supply through the national transmission line across Bajura district by this evening. Chief District Officer Niraula said the 11-kV power line would be repaired and brought into operation by this evening.
He said that although the collapse of several poles along the 33-kV transmission line in the area was expected to take some time to repair, electricity would be supplied to Martadi through the 11-kV transmission line today.
