Kathmandu, November 28

Pashupati Shumsher JBR, national president of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, said on Monday his party fully supports the Constitution amendment proposal that the Prachanda-led government is preparing to bring forth.

He claimed that Constitution amendment is a must for addressing Madhesh-related issues.

The RPP chief, speaking at a face-to-face that Reporters’ Club Nepal had organised, said the government will be able to register the amendment proposal in the Parliament pretty soon.

Our party has demanded a referendum on declaring Nepal a Hindu state, the RPP chief noted, adding, however, that this demand will not feature in the amendment proposal. He said: We know we don’t have the required strength in the Parliament, so we will not go for amendment by incorporating this issue. Currently, we are trying to ensure popular support for a Hindu state. Public opinion is swaying in our favour.

After the unity between RPP and RPP-Nepal, the new RPP will emerge as a powerful political force. He said his party will have a stronger showing in coming elections.
