Kathmandu, April 1
Deepak Bohara, a senior leader of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and a sitting lawmaker, has passed away at Om Hospital in Kathmandu.
Bohara, who represented Rupandehi-3 in Parliament, had been battling severe post-COVID complications for nearly four years. A close aide, Taramani Chand, confirmed his death on Monday.
The veteran politician was infected with COVID-19 during Nepal’s second wave in 2020. Though he recovered, the virus left him with serious throat complications, which progressively worsened. Doctors in Delhi and New York later diagnosed him with throat cancer, rendering him unable to speak. Despite this, he successfully contested the elections and communicated through fellow RPP lawmakers in Parliament.
Bohara, a prominent figure in Nepali politics, had served in multiple ministerial positions over the years. His passing marks the end of an era in conservative politics in Nepal.
