The first glimpse of “Road to Everest,” a documentary about the world’s highest peak involving a Nepali technical crew, has been released.
The documentary is based on the story of a journey from sea level to the summit of Everest. In a press release, the producers said the story explores the courage, mystery, and curiosity of climbing Everest, along with the impact of climate change there.
The documentary follows the inspiring journey of a person over 50 who chases the dream of climbing Everest while challenging age, time, and their own limits.
The release states that the film presents not just the grandeur of Everest but also, in depth, the risks of climbing, the tireless contribution of the Sherpa community, human courage, and the changing mountain environment due to climate change.
Directed by Nirmal Shrestha, the documentary features record-holding climbers Phurba Tenjing Sherpa and Nima Gyalzen Sherpa. Phurba has successfully summited Everest 18 times, while Nima has done so 10 times, including all 14 of the world’s highest peaks.
The documentary’s Nepal premiere will be held in Kathmandu on August 22, with the international premiere in Hong Kong on September 13. Following that, screenings are planned across various international platforms and theatres alongside Nepal.
Written by journalist Santosh Acharya and director Shrestha, who is also a journalist, the film comes after two years of research, filming and production. The documentary, narrated by Bhushan Dahal, has been made in both Nepali and English.
Produced by the social organisation Be Will Rise Foundation, the documentary is expected to help promote Nepal’s tourism worldwide. Its runtime is over 50 minutes.
