Kathmandu, September 2
Rescue efforts are continuing at the Trishuli 3A Hydropower Project, where a large number of people are believed to be trapped following the massive flood that entered the Trishuli River through the Bhotekoshi on August 26.
A joint team of Nepali experts and security personnel is working to rescue those believed to be trapped inside the project’s tunnel.
According to geotechnical engineer Udayaraj Neupane, workers are currently focused on opening the tunnel and clearing the mud inside.
Neupane said the tunnel entrance appears to have been sealed by a slab, which may have prevented large rocks from entering the tunnel.
“The slab seems to have blocked the entrance to the tunnel. Because the entrance was closed, we believe other large rocks did not enter inside,” he told Onlinekhabar. “That is why we are hopeful.”
According to Neupane, seven large rocks inside the tunnel are being blasted one by one.
“We are working according to a plan to enter the tunnel today,” he said.
