Ram Chandra Paudel meets Ganga Maya Adhikari, vents ire over govt apathy

Nepali Congress senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel meets Ganga Maya Adhikari, at Bir Hospital, on Tuesday, July 3, 2018.

Kathmandu, July 3

Nepali Congress senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel on Tuesday visited Ganga Maya Adhikari, who is staging an indefinite fast-unto-death at Bir Hospital demanding legal action against murder of her teenage sun Krishna Prasad Adhikari.

Krishna Prasad was killed during the decade-long Maoist insurgency. Her husband Nanda Prasad Adhikari died in course of a hunger strike staged to press for legal action against the killers. After that, Ganga Maya has been staging and breaking fast.

She is on the strike for over five weeks now.

Taking stock of the woman’s health condition, which doctors attending to her say is weakening everyday, Paudel said it was ironic that the government did not care about her life.

He was of the view that the communist government should have rightly addressed concerns of conflict victims as the party which waged the war against the state then now has been a part of the government.

“It is ironic that she is staging a hunger strike for action against her son’s murderers. If the government does not listen to her, we should take it to people.”
