Rajkumar Timilsina arrested in fake ‘Dark File’ audio case

Biratnagar, July 21

Rajkumar Timilsina, convicted in the case of a fake audio clip involving a Supreme Court justice, a legal professional, and a media entrepreneur, has been arrested from Itahari.

Timilsina, who had been sentenced to six months in prison by the Supreme Court for his involvement in producing the fake audio, was arrested by police on Sunday after being on the run following the verdict.

According to DSP Laxmi Bhandari of the Area Police Office, Itahari, Timilsina was taken into custody in Itahari-5 Pachrukhi in connection with a financial dispute between two women. His true identity was revealed only after his arrest.

“Initially, he claimed his surname was Khadka and said he was from Ilam. He also gave a false name. Only after we asked for his identification and questioned him further did we learn who he really was,” said DSP Bhandari. “We are holding him due to the Supreme Court’s verdict.”

Timilsina is now being prepared for transfer to prison to serve his sentence.

On September 30 last year, the Supreme Court’s full bench had sentenced Timilsina to six months in prison in connection with the fake audio scandal.

Police said Timilsina was found at the site of a dispute between two women at Pachrukhi Chowk in Itahari-5. He became involved in the incident and was brought to the station, where his status as a wanted fugitive was only discovered after checking his ID.

Originally from Godawari-10, Lalitpur, Timilsina had been hiding in the eastern region following the court ruling. During questioning, he told police he had been working as a carpenter in Dhankuta.
