Nepali Congress lawmaker Radheshyam Adhikari says that border disputes with India should not overshadow the country’s relations with its southern neighbour.

Adhikari, who was adressing a meeting of the National Assembly on Thursday, said that Nepal must be careful that the dispute does not affect other aspects of relations between the two countries. “Our ties with India are multi-dimensional. We should localise the issue and not allow it to affect our ties,” said Adhikari.

He said that the political leadership of both countries should reach a consensus to resolve the issue. He also called on the government to add 4-5 security posts in Darchula. He said that Nepal should invest in all-weather roads for Nepalis to travel to Darchula–currently, people rely on Indian roads because of the bad condition of roads in Nepal.

He said that if India can find a solution to its long-standing border dispute with Bangladesh, it can do so with Nepal as well.
