Baladev Sharma Pokharel, the leader of the main opposition leader of Province 5 Assembly, died of cancer on Monday. The 82-year-old leader was also the senior-most member of the assembly.
Pokharel was elected to the assembly as a proportional representative lawmaker of the Nepali Congress party. He was active in the party for the past six decades.
The octogenarian was fighting with cancer for nearly one year. He was admitted to Norvic Hospital in Kathmandu and Crimson Hospital for treatment but was taken back home after the doctors expressed hopelessness.
