Prisoners at the local correctional facility have provided assistance to families affected by the Bhotekoshi floods.
The inmates raised money and contributed their labour to prepare relief materials, which they handed over to Chief District Officer Ganesh Aryal at the prison premises on Monday.
They provided 125 sets of relief items, including mattresses, blankets, bed sheets, bed covers, towels, nail clippers, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste and combs.
The prisoners contributed between Rs 100 and Rs 2,000 each, as well as labour. On the occasion, it was reported that relief goods worth Rs 367,036 were purchased, while the mattresses and pillows were made by the prisoners themselves inside the prison.
Chief District Officer Aryal said the assistance provided by people serving prison sentences was exemplary and could serve as a model for others.
The prison currently houses 750 inmates, including 708 men and 42 women.
