Kathmandu, July 25
President Bidhya Devi Bhandari has issued an appeal to all political parties to form a government of national consensus within seven days.
The President, in a statement on Monday evening, made the appeal as per Article 298 of the Constitution.
Political parties now have a week to name a consensus candidate for Prime Minister. If they fail to do so within the deadline–which is almost certain they will–the President will then write to the House to elect the new Prime Minister through a simple majority.
Earlier in the day, the President consulted leaders of the three main political parties on the way forward, and challenges to implementing the new constitution.
